Photography

I got a couple of comments about the moon pictures last week, in particular about the camera. In order to take pictures like those shots of the moon you need a camera that will metre on just the centre of the frame. Not all cameras will do that, many take a light reading over the whole frame and average it out, leaving the moon as one put it “looking like a light bulb”. My Canon SX10IS has both ways of metering the exposure. Unfortunately it’s just two of something like 13,896 options, most of which I don’t know how to set. The camera came with a manual, a large book I’ve come to call The Encyclopedia Canonnica, but even with that it’s been difficult.

The camera though does take amazing pictures. Mostly I’ve been using it for landscapes.

The 20x zoom is very handy, as is the electronic image stabilization. There’s no way I could hold the camera still enough for a shot at 20x let alone at 80x (20x optical zoom plus 4x digital)

Marsha has been making some wonderful meals and I’ve started to use the camera’s close up capability to record these masterpieces.

Marsha makes wonderful culinary delights that I want to record for posterity. Some would say though that I have a long way to go with my food photography. What do you think?

Marsha, on the other hand has been using the camera for art photography, which has been coming out quite good

So the camera has been working quite well for us. The proper tool always works better than the cheap one. Of course it helps to have scenery like we have here.

I've been doing some art photography too.

Marsha is a paragon of patience, but even she draws the line somewhere.

Also I believe I mentioned that the iPod Touch has a camera in it. It's not a great camera but I found an App called Photosynth that lets you take multi frame panoramas and it automatically stitches them together into a single shot.

I've been having a lot of fun with that

And finally I have two more videos out there.
