Odds and Springs

A few odd things this week.
First off this week I got an e-mail notifying me that I was scheduled for an audit.....By the “British Department of Revenue”, unless I send them a check for back taxes, to PO Box whatever whatever, Lagos, Nigeria.
Oh yeah, that’s legit.
I’m guessing they don’t understand that the British agency is called Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs Department. And they wouldn't be running foreign audits out of a PO Box in Nigeria. Oh and most importantly that British Columbia is not actually part of the UK.
Sometimes SPAM is so pathetic it’s funny.

This week there was a spectacular lunar eclipse and I set everything up to see it. I had the camera out, I had some warm clothes ready, I even let Marsha know that I'd wake her up if it was clear. I checked online and the eclipse would peak just after 3:00am so I was ready to go. You see I have a knack, I can tell myself that I need to wake at a particular time and I more often than not I do. It's been very handy for astronomy things over the years. So anyway, at 3:11 I awoke and got up. I wandered out to the living room, It's far better to check the sky before getting dressed and hauling everything out. I looked out the front window and saw the moon high in a crystal clear sky. It was such a brilliant silver-white that you could see shadows all over the front yard. Wait, what? Silver white? I jumped online and checked. Yes, the eclipse was supposed to peak at 3:15. Why wasn't the moon red and spooky? I looked again, yes peak was at 3:15.... Eastern time. Ohhhhh, that's why.
Rats.

The company Marsha works for has an interesting voicemail system. When a message is left, rather than just recording what’s said it takes the audio file, uses voice recognition software to convert it to text, and sends it to the recipient as an e-mail. It sounds cool, but implementation is something else. We're speculating that it's tuned for a Canadian accent, not a Porter MN accent. Yesterday she called one of the agents and left a message that began with “I just got a call from Hanna’s client…” The system processed the audio stream and sent an e-mail to the agent and her boss that said “I just got a call from the hottest client…”
So close
It’s a good thing her boss has a sense of humour.

And finally, spring is here. You know sometimes we still get questions about our moving to BC. Are you happy there? Wouldn't you rather be back in Minnesota? That sort of thing. I'll let you decide.
