End of January

I can't believe we are almost at the end of January. I went walking with Barbara this morning and every store at the mall is decorated in red in preparation for Valentine's Day. This week we found out that Silas (a former co-worker from FSS) is going to be able to stop by and visit us in a couple of weeks. We are looking forward to having visitors.  Spring is around the corner for the Island. Radio and TV shows are already talking about gardens and  seed packets are already making their way into various stores.  We have been colder than normal here this year (but still pretty mild by Minnesota standards; just below freezing at night and mid 30s during the day). One of the old timers said we are just one storm away from spring and it will be on us before you know it. I hope that is true.

We have been taking so many pictures we decided to buy a backup drive for our computer. We used the store credit from when we returned Planet Earth.  It's amazing, our first computer had a 20Mb drive, now Doug picked up a 320Gb drive, and 500 to 1000Gb drives are in the stores as well. Doug has connected his computer to one of our big TVs and we have been watching more Ghost In The Shell.  Actually we just finished Season 2 and will probably check out the movies next week or so.

I have started pulling together paperwork for taxes.  We found an accountant in Lantzville who is going to file them for us, most accountants around here won't do US taxes so we had to hunt for a bit.. Unfortunately, with the multiple moves, my files are just a mess and it has been hard trying to find everything that I need so it has been time consuming going through all the records.

Doug has been working around the house again. This weekend he replaced the faucet in the main bathroom. amazingly enough he didn't accidentally shut the water off to the dishwasher this time. he also called the roofing company. There was supposed to be an aluminum drip edge installed when they did the roof, which they forgot. They were very apologetic, the site foreman misread the contract, so they are going to put it in as soon as they can. The trouble is that it needs to be around fifty degrees for them to be able to install it. with temperatures near freezing like we've had all month the shingles are stiff and a bit brittle. As long as they get it installed in the next few weeks we don't mind.

That's it for this week.
The pictures are from Pipers Lagoon and for all you dog lovers, I included on with a dog.

Take care and keep warm!
