Cats and a Visit and Remodelling, Oh My...
21/09/08 06:00
Momiji has been here for a week now and mostly it's going well. Momiji has become part of the family. She's still a bit nervous about some things but overall she has settled in well. Geiger has gone from hostile to curious to comfortable. The two of them are running around and playing day and night. Occasionally Geiger gets a bit rough, he's bigger than Momiji and gets carried away. We're not too worried though. Her yelp is usually followed by a good swat from her. (Momiji has claws and Geiger's are trimmed.) Once that happens Geiger always backs down. Momiji has no problem holding her own.
This morning we were watching CBS Sunday Morning. Geiger was sleeping in front of the TV. At the end they always do 3 minutes of nature and this time it was migrating Canada geese in Wisconsin. Geiger usually ignores the TV but as soon as the honking and flapping of the geese came on he woke up. He looked around and around trying to find these geese. We couldn't stop laughing; he was so determined to find the geese that had invaded his territory. As soon as the film ended and the geese stopped honking Geiger went back to sleep, I'm sure he thought he'd scared them off.
A couple of weeks ago we completed a big project on the house. We finished repainting the kitchen, family room, and hallway. It's now a rich blue. We also added white crown moulding around the space. It really makes the fire place stand out . I've included a before and after of the fireplace so you can see how it looks.
This week we've been prepping for a visit from Doug's mom. Setting up the futon, cleaning, making plans. Doug is taking several days off from work. It should be fun. According to Barbara, Ruth hasn't been up here since '94. I think she'll be surprised at how much Nanaimo has grown. Our house was built in '91 when this was the edge of town and Woodgrove (the biggest mall in Nanaimo or for that matter on the Island) didn't even exist.
Blackberries have peaked. We have 30+ quarts in the freezer which should be enough for the winter. We've put 16 apple crisp in the freezer as well. Unfortunately the tree we get the apples from didn't yield as much this year as last so that may be if for crisp this time around. On the other hand we have new recipes for rhubarb and blackberries so it'll balance out
that's all for this week

Three of Geiger and Momiji together.
The fireplace as it looked just before we moved in with the ineffectual ceiling fan, the tan paint, and many small pictures.
The fireplace after this round of remodeling; a flush ceiling light, rich blue paint, crown moulding, and a big mirror. We did the blue and crown moulding throughout the kitchen, family room, and hallway.
