What in the !@(*!@#$

That was what was heard across Nanaimo Saturday morning. We went to bed and it was 40 degrees and cloudy. When Marsha got up at midnight it had not changed. When i got up at 5:00 there was 24 cms of snow on the ground. Barbara lost electricity until 10:00. We didn't even try to leave the house all day. Fortunately with the intense sunlight we get this time of year the snow melted fast. The roads and even our driveway were all clear by the evening. By Sunday  even the lawn was clear. This was not only an all-time record snowfall for the 19th in Nanaimo it broke the all time record for the month of April. The worst part was that it only hit Nanaimo. Victoria, Vancouver, and Courteney, all had a pleasant evening and a warm Saturday. Only Nanaimo and it's immediate surroundings looked like a winter wonderland.  In fact we also had a little skiff of snow this morning.

Speaking of the lawn, we picked up a mower today. A non electric, non gas, reel type push mower. It was inexpensive and will be plenty for the tiny bit of actual grass  lawn we have. Most of our yard is in shrubs and moss rather than grass. In the front we have a steep hill on the uphill side of the driveway. It is about 6 feet high and really too steep for grass, not that we could mow it anyway. One of the earlier owners had planted ivy there but it was only marginally successful. This week we came up with the idea of planting zucchini, cucumbers, and squash on the slope. I think they will do well and will cover the ratty grass that's there now so it should look better. Plus we like the idea of growing some of our own food.

we're both nearly over our colds. It was really nasty but we're doing much better. Barbara is also doing better.  We have been over there alot just to make sure the cats are fed and to bring a few things and check on Barbara.  Some other friends, George and Sally were over on Sunday, installed some hand rails and brought over a ham dinner for the 3 of them.  So Barbara is well looked after.

Geiger had his own medical thing this week too. Not an emergency, we jut took him down for a check up and his shots. When we take the trip back to Minnesota we're going to board him and we wanted him protected. Overall he's in good health, though the rabies shot had him feeling a bit under the weather for a couple of days. The doctor mentioned that he had some gum irritation. This is only noteworthy because there are two ways you treat feline gingivitis. There are foods that help scrape his teeth clean. We tried that but he doesn't like it. So we are left with the other option. A neoprene finger cot with toothbrush bristles moulded onto it and chicken flavored toothpaste. Somehow putting my chicken flavored finger into a cat's mouth doesn't rank high on my list of things I want to do before I die. We'll see what happens.
