It's Snowing

Yes we finally got some snow. In fact is has been snowing on and off since Friday morning so we have a nice layer of snow.  Today I went to work at 1:30.  It still amuses me how surprised folks are when you make it to work in a 'blizzard'.   As I mentioned before, Customer Service in the only area that can sell cigarettes to our customers.  I noticed today that most of my sales were cartons instead of individual packs.  So I finally asked one of the customers why he was buying a carton. He said it was because of the snow and that he did not want to be caught at home with no smokes.

This week there were major issues at NCO and Doug had to pull two double shifts. On Wednesday he was there until midnight. After the 16 hour day he took Thursday off. On Friday he came home for a couple of hours, went back at 4:00, came home at 6:00, caught a couple hours of sleep, went back to the office at 12:00 and stayed until 2:30 in the morning. So not a great week.

The big news this week is that Doug got a new job. He had interviewed last week and then on Wednesday he received a job offer. He was supposed to go down to Victoria last Friday to do the final negotiations. Unfortunately the snowstorm kept him home. He did the final negotiations over the phone and will go down to the Nanaimo office to do the paperwork on Monday. The new job means a 25% raise, normal work hours, 2 weeks vacation and another 2 weeks 'bonus' vacation that everyone gets each year. The company prefers OpenSource software, Linux, OpenOffice, etc. wherever possible and most of the time Doug will be able to work from home.

We discovered something this week. Cats can get a cold. Geiger has been sneezing and sleeping more than usual. For a cat that says a lot. Apparently it IS possible to sleep more than 24 hours each day or at least it seems so. Anyway Geiger has been sneezing a lot, drinking fluids, and generally acting the way we do when we have a cold. Poor thing. We did learn that cat colds are just like people colds in one way. Doctors can't do a darn thing about them. So we just try to make the patient (Geiger) feel better.

With Doug's new job he will be working at home more. Because of this we decided to convert the guest room with a little office in the corner into a full office. We pulled the futon out and started taking things apart. Then we realized that this was the perfect time to paint. The room was a pea soup green when we moved in. I didn't think it was that bad but Doug really HATED it. And since he would be working in there a lot with the new job, a new paint job was needed. We spent Sunday painting. We chose a nice warm yellow. It will lighten the room up and make it seem larger. Of course it took two and a half coats of yellow to cover the green. One whole gallon went to cover three walls. Next week we finish the fourth wall and put everything back together.
