Happy Valentine's Day

So are you all planning on spending sometime with your loved one's on Thursday?  Doug and I are going out early with Barbara to celebrate. In fact we are going tomorrow. Doug had to put in a lot of extra time this weekend at work due to an application upgrade so he is only going to work 4 hours and then we'll go out for lunch with Barbara.  Last week I had mentioned that Barbara's kitties had brought in a rat to her house. On Friday Doug and I stopped at Canadian Tire (sort of like a Fleet Farm) and saw this great fake rat toy. So decided to buy it and when we went to Barbara's we told her we found her rat.  She just laughed and the cats had a great time playing with it. On Sunday Mike stopped by to visit his Mom and saw the rat on the floor and stopped dead in his tracks until Barbara told him it was just a toy.  Sure got his heart beating for a minute, though.

We finally purchased a replacement treadmill for Doug.  We gave his old one to our godchild - Paal before we left Minnesota. Doug had been wanting one ever since and we had been waiting for those after New Year resolution sales. We bought this one at Zellers and Doug is so glad to have one again.

BC is celebrated 150th anniversary of the founding of the Crown Colony of British Columbia. So all through out the year there will be celebrations across British Columbia in remembrance of this great event.  So to help celebrate BC, I am going to include bits and pieces of history in my next weekly letters. Hope you enjoy.

Jade is the official gemstone of BC
62 people were killed in an avalanche in Roger's Pass in 1910
Stephen Point was the first aboriginal Lieutenant Governor
Did you know the sockeye salmon lives in a lake for a year before heading to sea?
Did you know that Minnesota became a state in 1858?

This week I also received my CD that included music from the show, North of 60.  The show first aired in 1992 about a fictional town of Lynn River in the Northwest Territories. and ran until 1998. It can now been seen on reruns.  I started watching it not long after moving up here and really liked the show's theme song. While trying to researching the music I ran into a website for North of 60 fans. Not long after I joined the listserv they were asking about contacting Tim McCauley and see if he would make a CD for some of his fans.  He said yes and then we waited.  In the end, Tim felt bad about the delay in putting together the CD so he did it for free and we just had to pay postage.

Doug came across the following story and wanted to share this with you all.
