So How Was Everyone's July 4th?

Last week was eventful but not on the 4th, Doug had his fireworks early.

At work Doug had to do a couple of overnights. It started on Monday when in the middle of the afternoon a guy showed up with a box under his arm. He was from Cisco and was here to replace one of our network routers. Apparently the router had told the Corporate IT office that it was failing. They scheduled a replacement, but never told us. They arranged for the tech to come back the next morning (believe me Monday afternoon is not the time to cut half of the network off). Doug had to go into the office at 2 am and within a couple hours the new router was up and running. Then at 10:30 that night Doug's phone rang. It was work and the router had gone down. He went in and spent the whole night trying to get the box running. It turned out that the unit from Cisco was defective. They arranged for another replacement and Doug got home at 8:00 Wednesday morning. Fortunately, the replacement came in during the day on Thursday and because the router was completely out they were able to replace it without waiting for the middle of the night.

Last week was HOT. OK hot for here. Temperatures in the afternoon were up around 25 to 28 most of the week. It was the pits because that's just when we were trying to get to sleep each day. Along with the heat, it was very hazy. We didn't see the mountains across the water all week. The grey water merged seamlessly into the grey sky. Finally Thursday the heat broke and it dropped into the high teens. Saturday we could see the mountains again.

This week we were setting in the living room when a deer walked into the front yard and commenced to browse on our flowers. We were just saying something about @#$%&!! deer when her fawn came around the corner. It was so small it still had spots. Then a second fawn cane around the corner. True she was teaching her fawns to nibble our plants but they were so cute. We were very feeling very ambivalent about this.

Sunday we got together with Barbara for another movie night. We saw one of the Walking with Dinosaurs series (her choice) and she made tacos. It was a lot of fun. We had taken Geiger over with us to visit the other kitties. He was a bit of a jerk though and we had to keep an eye on him because all he wanted to do was chase the other cats around and show them he was the Alpha male.

We received our US Economic Stimulus check today so tomorrow it will go into the bank.  No plan to spend it right away, we are keeping it to help pay for our eclipse trip.  I am still waiting for my Canadian return and if it does not come in this week, I'm going to check in with our accountant to see what is going on as Doug had his return before we left on our June holiday.

So that's it from the Island. The pictures  are of the deer and Geiger. Just try to convince me his sleeping position is comfortable.
Enjoy.
