Rain, Rain, and a Little More Rain
07/01/08 06:01
Yes, that is what we have been having here on the Island. Rain and more rain, but the overall temperatures have been getting warmer, so all in all I guess I can't complain too much. There was an earthquake in the ocean on the north end of the Island, over by Port Hardy, but no damages were reported. British Columbia on the mainland also has been having it's share of avalanches. Most of the avalanches have occurred outside of regular skiing areas, but there was one yesterday in Kelowna, BC that was inside of a resort area. Now this was not something I had to worry about back in Minnesota.
The Dakar Rally was cancelled due to threats from Al-Qaeda and Doug is totally bummed. He had been talking about this off road rally for weeks and had his evenings all mapped out and what channel was covering the race. So he has turned his time over to writing. He is making notes for his next book. He complete a book of short stories and sent a copy of the manuscript to Orca Press. When he did that he also sent a copy of the manuscript to himself in order to use the cancellation date on the postage as proof of when he had written the stories. Well, we got the envelope that was sent to Doug back, but the Canada Post did not cancel the stamps, so he is taking it back now and mailing it again.
When we moved in we knew there were a few items that we wanted to upgrade. One of them was the dishwasher. The other appliances were newer, but we think the dishwasher was probably original to the house. It worked, but not great. However about a week ago it really stopped working as it did not even empty the soap dish and all of the dishes were dirty. So we have been looking for a new dishwasher. We have since put that on hold as Doug discovered he had turned off the water to the dishwasher when he installed a new kitchen faucet. Once the water has been turned back on - it is once again working - not great - but enough there is no hurry to replace it.
I have been fighting a cold for most of the week. As in any large work place, bugs get spread easily and I knew it was only a matter of time before I was next. However I am feeling better today and plan to go back to work tomorrow. However I think I will take it easy again today. Geiger must know I have not been feeling well though as he has been glued to my side whether I am in bed or sitting up. He just follows me around. So he has been nice company. However he does not really like the Vicks Vapor Rub I have been using.
It was Doug's birthday last week and my birthday will be this week. We were planning on going out on Saturday with Barbara and Mike, but due to my cold we have postponed this until later. I am hoping we can plan something for this coming weekend.
We also have all of our Christmas stuff put away including dropping off our tree down the way at a local mall where folks were collecting the trees for mulch that would be sold for charity.
Of - for all of you FSS folks who get this email. T-Mobile has a new verification policy in place due to FCC changes. So if a person does provide enough information in the email for us to access their account we have to write back and explain of the new change and of course we like to include that FCC made us do it. I have a heck of a time typing FCC as it almost always comes out FSS and I have to go back and change it.
Take care now.

The pictures below are of Mount Benson. It is just west of the City and has a summit of 3,350 foot, so obviously not one of the big mountains but the citizens of Nanaimo enjoy its beauty as a backdrop for the city and the recreational value.
