Fall Is In The Air
05/10/08 05:58
The leaves are starting to turn colours. Last night we had lots of wind resulting in small branches down and a lots of pine needles on the streets. It looks liked someone had dropped buckets of old pine needles along the road.
October 14, is the Canadian election. Doug and I are not able to vote here as we are not citizens but none the less we are very interested to see who wins. We will also be happy to see the end of all of the advertisements. Right now Steven Harper is the Prime Minister representing the Conservative Party. His main opponents are Stephane Dion - Liberal Party who does not speak English as well as French is his native tongue and Jack Layton - New Democratic Party (NDP) who is for, among other things, legalizing marijuana.. So it will be interesting to see who comes out the winner.
The rain started again this week so I was only able to pick apples on Monday. The tree in Barbara's front yard did not have many apples this year. However when I went to see if there were any more blackberries to pick I stopped to give the neighbors horse an apple. This was further into the field than I normally go and when I turned to go back to Barbara's house I discovered two more trees in the back corner that were full of apples. So off I went to pick some more. I shared my bounty with Barbara and the rest came home and became more apple crisp. I hope to get back out there again tomorrow weather permitting.
On Friday Barbara and I took her two cats in for their annual booster shots. Barbara does not have a carrier so I brought ours over hoping I could get one of them in there and Barbara planned to carry the other one in a pillowcase. I got Cosmo in the carrier and Barbara had Sesame in the pillowcase. Neither one of them was happy and expressed their displeasure all the way to town, especially Sesame. Boy does she have a yowl on her.
Once we got to the vets, Cosmo had settled down and in fact did not want to get out to get weighed (11.5 pounds) or to get shots. As soon as the vet was done he scooted right back in carrier. Miss Sesame on the other hand wanted to make sure everyone knew she was not happy and continued to yowl even when Barbara had let her out of the pillowcase. It was quite the trip and hopefully not one we have to make again soon.
Our cats are still doing well. In fact on some nights we have both of them in bed with us. This coming weekend Doug's brother, Ed and his wife, Pat are coming for a quick visit. They are attending a conference in Seattle and just taking a slight detour to Canada.
Next Monday, October 13 is also Thanksgiving here in Canada and as stated above October 14 is Election Day, so we will be busy. you gotta love a place that has 2 Thanksgivings. OK only the first one is the "official" holiday, but we and many of the people we know celebrate both.
Last week we mentioned the odd plate we'd picked up. The good news is that we found out what it was. It's a piece given as a gift by the Eastern Star (the women's wing of the Masons). The bad news is that it isn't going to be valued at $1,000,000 on Antiques Roadshow.
Take care and until next week, enjoy life and remember to hug your pets.
