February On The Island

Happy February to everyone!  We had a movie evening with Barbara on Saturday. She made tacos and we brought the movies. We decided on Arsenic and Old Lace with Cary Grant.  For those of you who may not be familiar with the movie it is about a drama critic who learns on his wedding day that his beloved maiden aunts are homicidal maniacs, and that insanity runs in his family. It is very funny.  On Sunday instead of spending the afternoon watching the SuperBowl I watched another old movie, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir.  Made in 1947 with Rex Harrison, Gene Tierney and a young Natalie Wood. This is the first time I saw the movie, but I remember the TV series from 1968 with Hope Lange.  Actually I caught the end of the game, what a let down seeing the New  York Giants win.  Doug was very happy not to be inundated with SuperBowl this and Super Bowl that, so he asked that I add his version of an appropriate Super Bowl ad.

SuperBowl Ticket; $4,000+
SuperBowl Ad; $1.5 Million+
Living in a place where the @*&!! SuperBowl doesn't blanket every &#$!!** available channel; Priceless
The same is true of all the political ads. Sometimes I feel like running down the street yelling "I'm Free! I'm Free!."

Today I went walking with Barbara at Woodgrove Centre (the largest mall on the Island) and saw an old 1928 Graham Paige  that had been driven from Argentina to Alaska by a family of 4.  The husband was there selling their book about their adventure. They are planning to go abroad and drive the car all over Asia. Here is a link to a brief article which includes a picture of the car.

Barbara and I also did some grocery shopping where I got a chance to sit in a Smart Car.  They are the cutest little things and Doug and I had wanted to sit in one since we saw them a few years back during one of trips to Europe.  For more info check out the www.smart.com website.  They are now selling them in the US.

One last story about Barbara and her cats. I went to pick Barbara up this morning and she was telling me about the latest catch and release gift the kitties brought in for her; a rat. Yesterday afternoon they just brought a rat into the house and then let it go.  Oh, she was not at all happy with her kitties.  If the rat was smart he made a run to the outside once the cats had settled down. But who knows?

Doug took the following pictures at Pipers Lagoon. Rather than watch an old movie or the Super Bowl he decided he would check the park out.   It was a beautiful sunny day but what you can't see in the pictures was the COLD wind blowing from the northwest. Doug and I'll go back to Pipers Lagoon when it gets a bit warmer.

Enjoy.

Does this cat look like he would catch and release a rat?
