So did March come in for you like a lion or lamb? The weather here was great. We had a few sprinkles, but mostly sun and warm weather. For those of you who know Dale Randall, she is retiring on March 7. She is currently employed at the Chemistry Stockroom and has worked for 42 years at the U. For all of those folks who we supplied moving boxes to, Dale was our contact. So look her up and send her a thank you before she leaves on her retirement.
I've been meaning to tell you all about a big mystery we have here on the Island. In the past six months there have been 3 severed right feet in sneakers washed up on one of the Islands off the Georgia Strait. The first two right feet were found in size 12 sneakers. The feet have been discovered on Gabriola Island, Jedidiah Island and Valdes Island. At this point in time, no one know who the feet belong to or if there was even any foul play involved. The feet were all shipped to Vancouver for further analysis. Pretty strange eh?
Both Doug and I have again been busy this week. Doug had switched his hours to be able to work on some big projects with his co-worker Keith and I am still working and attending class. The class has been going well, but I don't get much time to do some of the work during the week, so I am trying to get most of it done on the weekend. This class will also provide schedule and pay for us to attend some additional classes such as First Aid, WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information) and SuperHost. SuperHost was a program developed by Tourism BC to improve the quality of service in tourism business throughout the province. I don't necessarily need these certificates, but it looks good on the resume and since the class is paying for it, it seemed silly not to take advantage of it.
Doug is working on installing the floor. He is doing just a little at a time but that works out well. Geiger finds it very strange and I think with us moving around the furniture again, he is getting worried we might be moving. He has been keeping very close to me and right now is sleeping on the couch in the computer room. As soon as I leave, he will be my little shadow and follow me around the house. So this week's pictures will be of Geiger. Enjoy.
B.C. Fun Facts:
New Caledonia, Albertoria, Borlia, West Britannia, Pacifica - all these names were suggestions for the colony that finally became "British Columbia" in 1858.
The oldest preserved Hudson's Bay Company fort in Canada is located in Nanaimo; the Bastion was built in 1853.
Camels were briefly used as pack animals in B.C.'s Interior from 1862-63. Their feet proved too soft for the rocky terrain and they were set free. The last open range camel died in 1905.
Take Care,
Marsh and Doug
