Happy June 1st!!

Hello everyone!

We have been busy packing for our trip back to Minnesota.  We leave on Tuesday after work. We are taking the 3:15 ferry and will see how far we get before we find a place to sleep.  Hopefully at least across the border and into Washington for a few miles.

We went to some friends for dinner on Monday evening. George and Sally have a house overlooking where the ferries arrive.  It is an older character house that they have fixed up very nice including lots of landscaping and planting in the back yard. George's son is having his wedding there this summer.

Barbara's birthday was this week on Thursday we turned 83. She is slowly recovering from her fall, but from her perspective the healing is taking too long. Last week she woke up to a noise in the back bedroom in her house and found that a baby raccoon had wandered in.  She keeps her back door open slightly so the cats can get in and out when they want and apparently the raccoon thought her house seemed like a nice place to visit, until the door blew closed and he was trapped.  The cats are also taking to bringing in snakes as gifts for Barbara.  I hate snakes!

Barbara took Doug and I out for dinner on Friday evening. We went to the Saigon Kitchen a Vietnamese place not far from where we live.  The food was great and there was a whole page of vegetarian choices for Doug. We are planning to go back soon and try some more items.

Last week my laptop took it's last breath. The 7 year old 12" iBook had no name but was part of the family. Comfortable as slippers, loyal as an old dog, and reliable as a hundred year old pocket watch, she was always there when we needed her. Until this week that is when suddenly she just stopped. Several people on the web confirmed what I suspected; sudden massive motherboard failure. She's uneconomical to repair so we'll get a different laptop, but we'll never be able to replace her.

We finally got the plants in the ground. Let's see, $110 for seedlings, soil and mulch and we'll get oh somewhere around $30 of vegetables. That's assuming that the deer don't stop by for a snack.  It's fun though.

Last weekend Geiger discovered how to get out of the back yard. We've been letting him wander inside the fenced area while we garden. This time we realized that he wasn't around and found him exploring the driveway. We live on a fairly busy street so it'll be a while before we let him out 'unsupervised'.  Tomorrow Geiger is heading for kitty spa, where he will be staying while we are gone. We have a bag packed up for him including a blanket and some toys.

As we will be on holiday for the next couple of weekends - our weekly updates will be on holiday too. Take care everyone and below are some pictures of plants in our garden.
