Happy Memorial Day!
24/05/09 06:02
Yes, this week I am writing the letter instead of Doug. I think we mentioned this last week that we had our May holiday last weekend so no long weekend for us. Today I've been busy working in the garden doing more weeding and laying more rocks. With some help from Doug, I have been going down to the shore and picking up beach rock. Then I bring them back, do some weeding, lay down newspaper and place the rocks in the garden. I have attached some pictures to show how I'm doing so far. It is a slow process but very relaxing and fun.
This last weekend the Farmer's Market down the road from us opened for the season. Doug bought some turnips and I bought some plants. The growing season here is behind a couple of weeks due to our colder spring so there was not much produce yet, but that will be coming up soon.
RIght now I am watching the Twins and Brewer game. It is the ESPN Sunday night game, so it is a nice way to spend a Sunday evening. The only run so far is Joe Mauer's homerun to right field. They certainly have been scoring a lot during the last few games, I believe the announcers said they had scored 37 runs in the last three games. WOW! If only they can keep that up. DARN - Milwaukee just hit a home run so the game is tied.
Doug had left the patio door open a little, while I was in the back weeding and guess who managed to get out for a stroll. Yup Geiger managed to open the screen and went out for a walk. I found him the first time and brought him back inside. We tried to leave the door open a second time and even put a planter in front of the door to slow down any possible escape. It did not work, in just a couple of minutes Geiger was back out again, so the door and screen were closed. Geiger was in a snit the rest of the afternoon.
But then Geiger was already in hot water, literally and figuratively. Yesterday we were in the living room and heard a crash in the laundry room. This is, as those of you that live with children or cats will attest, not unusual. what was strange was the hissing. Geiger came flying into the living room as we heard a loud hiss down the hallway. Doug and I looked at each other and scampered off to investigate. Geiger had been exploring. Yes he's known this laundry room for a year and a half but he still explores like it was the first time. Somehow in his explorations he knocked a box off the top of the hot water heater. He knocked it off in just the right angle to strike the hot water heater drain tap and turn it on a bit. The hiss was the sound of water escaping onto the floor. Doug got it turned off quickly but still several cups had escaped and had to be mopped up. Geiger was in trouble and Momiji was loving every minute of it.
Friday is Aunt Barbara's 84th birthday. If anyone would like to send birthday wishes to her - just reply to this email and I will make sure she gets them. The grandkids are coming over from Vancouver and we'll be doing something this weekend, not sure what yet.
So not much else to say for this week. It looks like the weather in Minnesota has been pretty nice, so I hope everyone has a great Memorial Day weekend and stays safe.
