Two Years

Two years.
It's been two years since we washed up, exhausted and bedraggled on the shores of this wilderness island lost in the vastness of the Pacific. We've made a home, and survived upon the bounty of nature, by our wits and with more than a little luck. It seems like a lifetime since our escape from that far away land. The headlong dash through the dark. Fighting our way through mountains. Facing down wild animals. Finally, boarding a ship that dumped us and disappeared into the mists and the darkness . It now seems like our old life was a dream. Or maybe it's our life here among the orcas and grizzly bears that is.
OK we didn't really flee in the darkness; it was a sunny April afternoon and flee IS a bit strong. I guess the only wild animals we have had to deal with was Geiger. And I guess while we did get apples, blackberries, and rhubarb, from nature, mostly we got our food from the grocery store. We are on an island in the pacific, but lost is a bit strong. Heck, we can see Vancouver across the water. OK and to be completely truthful we didn't in fact wash up, BC ferries dropped our little caravan off right on schedule, and that night we stayed in a hotel that first night.
But our old life does seem like a dream. We've been back to Minnesota a time or two and it was nice to see old friends but Minnesota isn't home any longer. Our home is now among the thick forests, the cool mists, and the laid back people. Our home has seals and orcas, and seagulls, and yes Canada Geese. We walk hand in hand on the beach and spend days just having fun. A bad commute is when I trip over one of the cats on the way down the hall to the office.
So two years have passed. We're healthier, happier, we laugh more and sleep better. If this is a dream, we want it to keep going for a long time.
