Venus and Anniversaries

Last week we were also able to see the Transit of Venus. The sky was mostly cloudy but we got a couple of little openings and were able to see the event, unlike in 2006 when it was clear except for a bank of clouds in front of the sun. We both saw the little dot crossing the face of the sun. I even got a couple of pictures. The first is just with the camera, the second I took through my telescope. [yeah right, Doug.  Marsha]

This week we celebrate our anniversary. You see, I can remember that because 25 years ago when we got married I had a choice of which day and I chose the 13th. That way I figured at least once every seven years it would fall on a Friday and at least I’d get a couple of jokes out of it. It’s turned into a great way to remember the date too so that’s worked out well.

Yes, we’ve been married for twenty-five years. A quarter of a century of married bliss. 9231 days of togetherness. 221,544 hours of union. 13,292,640 minutes of [OK that’s enough of that!, Marsha].

Well, anyway, we’re planning on going out on the weekend and celebrating a bit. Nothing too wild mind you. No keggers with jalapeno poppers and demon-nachos. No skydiving or tandom bungee jumping. No we’ll just go out to White Spot at 2:00 and have their boiled chicken and mashed potato special and pay with a coupon [Come on now, we’re not that old, Marsha] and then on Wednesday (sorry but there are no Wednesday the 13th jokes) I’ll pick up some dinner on the way home and we’ll celebrate together, just like we’ve done, every year, every month, every week, every hour, every minute, every second, every [Enough already!, Marsha] since we got together. It’s been a wonderful time. Really.

Look, back then I had hair!

This week also was also the celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. She’s been on the throne for 60 years. We watched the River Pageant from London. At the end we all stood for the singing of God Save The Queen. We had to of course, it’s the law. [No it isn’t, Marsha].

So we’re looking at a good week. The garden is growing well, the cats are happy, and we’re looking forward to our own Diamond Jubilee on another 50 years (oddly enough diamond is 60 years for royalty but 75 for commoners. They get all the breaks.).
