Victoria Day Weekend

This was a creative week. Early on Marsha wanted me to make breakfast. I was a little under the weather but I did it. I mean she did work that morning and all. So I had pancakes and bacon waiting for her when she got home at 7:00 that morning. She appreciated it and all. I don't know though, somehow I think she could tell my heart wasn't in it.

For the rest of the week we worked on our latest project. The living room floor. We've ripped up the carpet. Prepped and have spent most of the week laying engineered bamboo flooring. I was impressed how easily it went down. Snap together without any of the hammering and pounding needed with the laminates I've been doing. It is a deep cherry stain which sets off the blue-grey wall colour very nicely. Afterwards we had a bit of a celebration. Ding-Dong, the last of the awful sand-camel-tan-beige-whatever-colour they painted the interior was gone. Woo-Hoo!

This weekend is Victoria Day. We get a three day weekend a week earlier than those of you south of the border. NoI have to admit that I've had some trepidation to this upcoming weekend. The last three day weekend here was when we had this huge rain and wind storm and I ended up working over 30 hours over the three days. This time it looks like we're OK. We've had rain but overall it's not been too bad. It looks like the storm missed us. The north-eastern corner of BC, along the Peace River near the corner of Alberta got hammered with a late spring snowstorm.

As of today most of them were still without power. Just another reason we moved to Vancouver Island rather than the mainland.

That's not to say that the weather here has been fabulous. As I mentioned earlier it's been a rainy week and we know why. We had a long stretch of sun until last Monday. That was when the guy behind us started building the structure of his new house. The morning the first piece of lumber was nailed in place, raindrops started falling and for the rest of the week the harder the crew worked the harder it rained. Wednesday was particularly strange. It rained hard all morning. Finally at noon he called it off for the day and sent his crew home because it was just coming down so hard. The minute they left it stopped raining and was bright and sunny the rest of the day. It's been very strange. Oh well, at least our plants have enjoyed it. In the last couple of weeks the peppers have grown and the tomatoes have nearly tripled in size. The strawberries are doing very well too.

Yup looks like we're going to have a good crop this year.
