Flooring and Life Lessens
14/02/10 18:22
So last weekend we replaced the carpet in the master bedroom. We put in the laminate flooring we got on clearance at Home Depot last November. Friday we removed most of the furniture. Saturday morning we took out the rest of the furniture and the carpet and pad. It was well after lunch before we got the floor cleared, staples removed, all the dirt swept up and the place ready for the new floor. Putting the floor itself in was fairly easy. We've installed a lot of laminate over the last few years and the room was pretty much square, except for the closet. By 4:00 we had two thirds of the new floor down and we could stop and put the bed and most of the furniture back. That was our goal for Saturday.
Sunday we pushed to get the rest of the floor done. This was complicated because this was where the two doors and the closet were located. Progress was much slower but we got the room itself done, just a few boards needed to be set in place in the back of the closet on Monday. Overall the project went well. I finally picked up a jam-saw to trim the moulding around the doors. It worked very well. The moulding was at exactly the right height so I didn't need to trim anything. If only I'd known earlier that this was how it worked. Also when you're putting in any kind of flooring you need to trim the last row for width. They actually recommend that you trim the first and last row so you don't have one row an inch wide. Well in the bedroom the last row came within a quarter of an inch of the wall. It was EXACTLY the right width without any trimming. Then in the back of the closet the last panel also came within a quarter of an inch of the wall. Overall we were very lucky on this project.
Today we went out to get some trim to put under the door between the bedroom and the hallway and between the bedroom and the bath. Earlier I'd checked the usual places, Home Depot and Slegg Lumber but they didn't have anything that I was happy with. We decided to try a new place that we'd seen advertised. We'd never noticed it but there was a flyer in the paper this week that said they were located on Boban road. I knew Boban Road. The Toyota Dealership, NCO, and the Recycling Centre were all just off of Boban Road. So we headed down there. At the first light Marsha started to go straight but I told her that was Mostar not Boban. So we made the turn and headed for Boban.
Arriving at the light Marsha noticed that the road was Bowen not Boban. OK I said but lets make the turn anyway. We headed on up Bowen as I explained that Boban had to be just up here because we were near Boban Park. As I expected, just few blocks along we came to the park. Beban Park. At this point I had to admit that I had no idea where Boban Road was. We were near the highway so we jumped on 19 and drove north toward home. We exited at Mostar (remember Mostar? Marsha originally wanted to go down Mostar) and guess what we saw. The very first light off of the Highway was Boban and Windsor Plywood was located just a block down. It just shows something that I learned a long time ago. Somehow, someway, at some time in the future Marsha is always right. Even when there is no way. Even if it is an absolutely wild guess based on the most inaccurate information and wrong assumptions. Marsha is always right.
Sigh.
