Road Trip!!
11/04/10 06:07
We're on the road this week. After the gonzo overtime needed to fix all the stuff that decided to break at the last minute and Marsha working every morning, we caught the 3:15 ferry out of Nanaimo and headed down the road. We made it to Bellingham Washington the first night, then Klamath Falls Oregon the second and Carson City the next day about noon. A few interesting observations.
We ran across a Canby in Washington, Oregon and California in addition to the one in Minnesota. I don't know who Canby was, but he sure was popular at one time. Oddly enough they are all about the same size. (This is now Marsha - there was a General Canby during the Civil War times.)

We had some time so we took a side trip to Virginia City. Virginia City, the town that the guys on Bonanza always rode DOWN into. Not Possible. The road to there went up a horrendously steep windy switchback that gained a couple thousand feet from the valley floor. I was torn between having a great time running up the road and desperately wanting my Mini Cooper back. It would have been a blast. The road down was much straighter. That is it ran straight down the face of the mountain. A 15%+ grade with a 25mph speed limit. Frustrating.
In Virginia City we stopped in at the Red Dog Saloon. This was where a bunch of bands from the San Francisco area went after the end of the Haight Ashbury days in the '60s. It was made famous in the film Rockin' at the Red Dog: The Dawn of Psychedelic Rock. The place is open and the owner was rather chatty we talked with him for a long while. We were going to get my cousin Mike a Red Dog T-Shirt but they were out. We settled for a beer glass. Then across the street for some White Turquoise earrings for Marsha and then on down the road.

We've spent the last couple of days at Ruth's house, visiting, fixing what needs to be fixed, and sorting out computer problems. We even got her on Skype which will make calling us much easier.
While we were here Omar, a neighbour kid that Ruth has gotten to know well, came over to show off his new dog. It is a Pomeranian about 4 months old. I made it a chew toy and we watched them playing with it for some time last night.

Tomorrow we head for home. Hope all is well with you.
